Upbeet and Big Beet – Vego and Vegan Fare cafes

Upbeet is a funky Katoomba Street cafe, serving truly yummy vegetarian and vegan food at reasonable prices. I’m a huge fan of Turkish Toastie No. 1 (with roasted pumpkin, tamarind and baby spinach) but the burritos are a close competitor.  Upbeet has quickly gained a reputation for making some of the best coffee in town.

Not only does Upbeet serve divinely delicious food, they offer scrumptious gluten free and vegan options too. I took my mother there a while ago; she’s eighty and not exactly hip. Mum was astounded that such a feral looking bunch of young people could provide such good customer service, as well as great food and coffee.

I know plenty of locals who aren’t vegetarians that regard Upbeet as one of the best new hangouts in Katoomba. Great vibes, great staff and we vegetarians never have that sinking feeling that we’ve accidentally been served meat.

Now there is also Big Beet Juice & Espresso Bar located in top level of the Katoomba Town Centre Arcade in the walkway between Katoomba St and the Coles/Cultural centre. It’s a beautiful space and the food is just so incredibly yummy!! I’m truly salivating, dreaming of a tasty tamarind pumpkin toasty.

Big Beet grew from Up Beet and has so many lovely places to sit and chat over coffee. There are tables big enough to turn up with a crowd of friends and  quirky corners to have a chat with a friend. It’s super family-friendly, the decor is truly original and creates a playful atmosphere. The Big Beet crew also do a great job of catering to dietary restrictions and make super-duper fresh juices.
